Do you have a job?

Why, yes I do. Please check out my resume for more information.

EDIT: October 9th, 2009: Not anymore. Please check out my resume!

Are you insane?!?! YOU HAVE A JOB! Why would you risk it in this recession?

Simply put, I believe there is something better for me out there. At the risk of sounding cliché, I will quote Switchfoot's lead singer, Jonathan Foreman: "I want more than just OK. I'm not giving up now, I'm not backing down. More than fine, more than bent on getting by. More than fine, more than just OK." I learned when I moved from Alabama to Illinois 18 months ago that risks that seem the scariest to take are usually the ones that work out for the best. I've also learned to think and overanalyze less, and act more on instinct. My instinct is telling me I should do this.

OK... What kind of job are you looking for?

Very good question. First and foremost, I want to be doing something I love. But since "something Matt McCall would love doing" doesn't appear in most job descriptions... ideally I would want to utilize, as much as possible, my skills in Microsoft Office, data analysis, business communication, and more items that can be found on my résumé.  My first full-time job was in the market research industry, and the work was something I highly enjoyed.  If I got back into market research, I would more than likely be happy with it.

Alternately, I would certainly seriously consider any opportunities available in TV/video production or editing.  I have produced several videos as part of my freelance work, Matt Thomas Productions. I am well-versed in Adobe Premiere and Sony Vegas, and I have shot stories and operated in-studio cameras as part of my involvement in Eagle Eye News, Auburn University's student-run TV newsmagazine.

Overall, I am definitely flexible in what I would consider. My goal is to do something I love, yes, but it is also to find something stable and likely to increase my overall quality of life.

What are you going to do if someone wants to interview you but you aren't in that city?

That's the beauty of the All-You-Can-Jet pass! It allows unlimited travel to any JetBlue destination within the 30-day time frame. Sure, I have an preliminary route mapped out, but it is definitely subject to change. The only caveat is that I have to make a change at least 3 days in advance of when I need to be there.

Are there any cities you're considering that aren't on your itinerary?

Yep. I just can't hit them all in 30 days and still spend any meaningful time there. Two examples are San Diego and Charlotte. I can get to either of them easily enough, but they didn't quite fit within the route I've drawn up. If I'm asked to interview in either of those cities, and I think the opportunity is worth it, I'll definitely be there!

Where are you going to stay?

For the most part I hope to stay with friends and family, or people that they know and trust if they are unable to accommodate me. My goal is to avoid hotels if need be, since they add to my costs. I also have a profile on CouchSurfing.org where I'm seeking out possible hosts.

I'd like to host you/show you around my city! How do I get in contact with you?

Email me here.

I'd like to contribute to your survival fund! How can I help?

Wow, thanks! Donate via PayPal here.

What are you going to do if you don't get a job by the time your trip is over?

I'll continue the search for something great. It's something I've been doing for a long time, and something I don't see stopping.
